Edible Garden

Year 3 from Classes 6 & 7 are taking part in the Edible Garden Project. The Garden was prepared by a team from the project who built raised beds and a greenhouse. The beds were then filled with soil ready for year 3 to start work.

Even in the Winter months the children have been very busy. They have looked at the information found on seed packets and designed their own packets. They have learnt about the different mini beasts that can help plants and those that can be harmful.  They designed a layout of the beds, deciding what things they would like to plant and where they could be planted.

In class the children have sown seeds for leeks, tomatoes, cauliflowers and cabbages. They have started growing and are nearly ready to re-pot, the children are looking forward to getting their hands dirty re-potting them.  The children have also been busy outside using garden tools making sure the beds are prepared for the plants when they are ready to be planted outside.

Mrs Cormack and Mr Radforth have also been very busy preparing the existing school garden area and planting fruit trees.  We will keep you up to date with  news of how our garden is coming along. Have a look at the pictures to see how busy we have been.
