Stay and Read
Thank you to all those parents, carers and other family members who came to join us for the recent Stay and Read.
It was lovely to see so many adults from our school community enjoying reading with pupils and sharing their own love of reading.
We have been very well supported by families in all our events to promote Reading for Pleasure and I’m sure you will agree that there is a real “buzz” around reading in school now.
The staff have noted a significant improvement in the frequency of pupils reading independently, the standard of commentary by pupils in the Upper Juniors in their own reading records and the use of the school library (which is often full of enthusiastic readers at break and lunch times).
Also, most families seem to be taking advantage of the earlier opening times of the school doors to allow for a brief, quiet period of independent reading each morning. Staff have commented on the calming influence this is having on the start of the school day!
Thank you all for your support
